I had a pretty great weekend of training. Friday was a low key day as I wasn't feeling too energetic...so I ended up doing an hour long recovery run before calling it an early night.
Saturday I got outside for a 3 hour ride north of Calgary. I explored a bunch of back roads trying to get my bearings. I kept it aerobic for the most part but would throw in some tempo efforts from time-to-time. The sun was out but the wind was chilly as heck. I was averaging about 30km/h heading out and 40km/h coming back. Heading back with the wind was so much fun...at one point I was just coming down a hill and as I hit the bottom I dropped into my aerobars and stepped on the gas to reach 70km/h. I was ready to shit my pants...too much fun!
When I got home, I took a quick nap before heading down to campus to swim. Only when I got there, there was a swim meet taking place so no swim for me. I was quite pissed because I had been at the facility all week and no notice had been given about the meet. So I turned around and caught the train/bus back home. An hour later I was at the house and lacing up the runners for an medium-effort 30 minute rip around the hood.
Sunday I was up early and down to a different pool for a long and steady workout. Good swim. Later that afternoon it was out for a 15km run. First half was at marathon pace with second half picking up the pace to projected half-marathon pace ending the last two km at a pace between 10km and Half Mary. Solid run and I was pleased with how I felt at the end. Got sick again shortly after the workout...not sure what is happening there but I am in the process of trying to determine what it might be.
Overall, it was a pretty solid recovery week.
Today is a recovery day...did an easy cardio workout on the WaveRunners with a fellow co-worker during lunch. The sun looks like it is splitting the rocks outside so I am hoping to get outside for an easy ride.
Happy Monday!
Are you still in suspense?

Get Susi to give you a tour. She knows some great rides up there. Except for the swim meet bummer, sounds great!
Isn't is wonderful to be riding outside again? Gotta love that wind on the way back too. Yesterday, I had an easy spin after my run and no kidding, I biked 40 minutes west and it took me 17 minutes to get back home. WHEEEE!!!
