Terrific thread on Indoor Trainer Rides

It is reassuring to see other people do the same thing when they are short on time, weather is shitty, and/or want to do specific training.

Indoor Trainer during the summer

I have to admit my first thought about the concept of indoor trainer rides during the summer was that it was just about the most perverted thing you could do.

After reading the comments, I can see where some of them are coming from. In particular, going for specific intervals for specific effort, or one leg drill is way easier on the trainer.

However, I find that the trainer just doesn't prepare you for hills. Maybe that means I didn't work hard enough on the trainer, I don't know. But I find I get a better ride outside, and I'll take the hills near my place any day over the trainer. Dealing with the wind, traffic, road issues all help keep you sharp for the real race rides.

I agree with you Keith -- I mean for people who have no choice due to work and time constraints I can understand, but nothing beats biking outside.
