Despite a lighter workload, I struggled through some of my workouts this week due to fatigue issues related to being sick.
For the past three weeks I have reduced my caffeine intake substantially which has helped tremendously with falling asleep at night - although for some reason the past several nights I have gone to bed around 10pm and have awoken around 3am to stay wide-awake for a couple of hours before falling asleep again. This kinda makes it hard to get up a 5:30am for a run so I've had to push my runs to the evening.
I know it is not related to caffeine nor anything I eat because I generally don't eat within 3-4 hours of going to bed these days. Typically when I wake up, I go to the washroom then stay up thinking about work - which, is probably the issue.
Mel sent me this link: http://www.marilyn.ca/HealthFitness/segments.aspx/Daily/January2012/01_25_2012/SleepSolutions
It lists a few natural remedies to help with sleep so I am going to try out "Can't stay asleep" which states taking 1 Relora before bed & 2 on rising, 500 to 1000mg of Ashwaganda twice daily, along with some Melatonin. I am starting tonight and will write about it next week to share the results.
Workout wise, I have some skiing, running, and either another ski or bike planned for the weekend - my weekend starts tomorrow as I decided to take an edo to go ski.
Oh, and one of my favorite tunes at the moment is by one of my favorite Dj's: Mat Zo - Ring on it.
Lyrics aside...because I have already "put a ring on it" - the beats are super wicked to train to.
There isn't an official video out to it yet, but you can take a listen on YouTube...

Oooh, thanks for the music! That is right up my alley. The flu can take a heck of a lot out of a person -- and you are a healthy guy! Imagine what some poor sap feels like who isn't active and has a crap diet.
Feel better and get some zzzzzs! :)
