Amazing how stupid people are and I don't mean u. The drivers win everytime but that doesn't mean they should. And blood sugar levels -- really critical on a day like this!!

Unreal that Calgary doesn't have bike lanes. Blows my mind that drivers are that ignorant and dangerous.

Keith's description of the two riders lit up like Christmas trees is probably the best way to deal with it, but oh man, then you'd be known as "That Guy." LOL!!

It's more stressful then commuting by vehicle for heaven's sake!!

Wow. Disappointing!
But we JUST got some bike lanes this summer!! I have yet to ride in them but they look wide and well marked and cool. There were over 300 cyclists that showed up at the "thanks City of Saskatoon" ride through town!!!

Unfortunately Calgary is behind the times on this, as it is on any issue that doesn't involve oil, money etc.
They need bike lanes, the pathways are out for commuters, with a 20km/hr speed limit it pretty much limits use. Riding on the roads is taking your life in your hands, it is really unacceptable for a city that size...

That is biking in car crazy Calgary for you. If you don't think the drivers are out to get you every second of your ride, you're going to end up being a messy decoration on some idiot's bumper.

I've only seen two cyclists that I think have the right idea. One has enough lights blinking and flashing that he looks like the spaceship from Close Encounters. He probably has a special holder for the batteries instead of a second water bottle. The other guy has so much reflective stuff on, plus a few lights, that you can tell your fenders need washing as you pass him. Assuming both of these are hims, which might not be a good assumption.

Others I think are batshit crazy, doing any one or a combination of the below. Riding without a helmet. No reflective stuff. No lights. Wearing colours that blend into the morning or evening gloom. Not paying ay attention to traffic or traffic control devices. (I sometimes do stuff contrary to what the traffic control device says, but I'm well aware it's there, and what the traffic is doing.) Riding in a drive lane when the tire space is the only clear pavement, and the ice starts sloping up and over the curb right from the tire lane.
